Jamhub is a mobile app designed to connect musicians and foster collaboration. Similar to Instagram for the music community, it allows songwriters, guitarists, vocalists, and other musicians to share their compositions, receive feedback, and collaborate on new projects. Empowering creativity, Jamhub ensures your ideas are never overlooked.

Introduction

👤 My Role:

UI/UX Design student with the USF/Springboard Bootcamp (Capstone Project)

❗️The Problem:

When individuals lack the skills to produce their own original music, play an instrument, or sing, they often have to rely on others. This dependency can result in lost time, increased costs, and sometimes compromise their full creative vision.

Research

The research began with an exploration of online forums and articles, revealing common frustrations in music production. A survey by Aden Russel highlighted that many musicians struggle with where to start, with 446 respondents being new to music production. Key challenges included mixing, writer’s block, and inspiration.

Analysis of competitors, SoundBetter and Dribbble, provided valuable insights. Dribbble excelled in aesthetic design and system visibility but lacked consistency and clear navigation for new users. SoundBetter, though strong in consistency and system clarity, lacked a minimalist design. Both platforms, while good for collaboration, were cluttered and not focused on specific tasks or goals, highlighting an opportunity for improvement in user experience.

User Surveys

An 8-question screener survey was distributed to recruit participants, focusing on musical knowledge and passion for production.

User Interviews

Five participants were interviewed via Zoom, discussing their music production experiences. Key themes included collaboration, software challenges, and building confidence.

Affinity Mapping

Insights from interviews were coded and organized into categories. A common issue identified was the lack of mentorship, while positive experiences often involved collaboration, highlighting the need for a supportive production environment.

User Flows and Sketches

I created user flows to map the primary tasks for users collaborating on song creation. Initial paper sketches focused on these flows, followed by three guerrilla tests with linked pages in Marvel. Based on feedback, I made design improvements: I added missing elements to ensure users could navigate smoothly, and enhanced contrast to differentiate between users' profiles, projects, and collaborators.

The Brand Vision

Keeping it simple, but still making a statement.
