Design Sprint
SAVR
Starting With The Problem and Insights
Savr Recipes is a mobile app designed to simplify cooking at home, but it has received negative feedback on its more complicated recipes, particularly regarding unclear instructions, timing, and preparation steps. While users appreciate the variety and quality of recipes, frustrations arise from the lack of time management, unclear techniques, and complex steps. Users expressed a desire for better preparation and simplicity in recipes, with some resorting to external resources for clarification. These issues lead to mistakes, dissatisfaction with the final dish, and reluctance to try new recipes.

Day 1 - Map
I began by mapping out the key issues and translating them into actionable insights. I then categorized these insights to gain a clearer understanding of the broader challenges. Afterward, I mapped out various user pathways to guide the development of potential solutions.
Day 2 - Sketch

Day 3 - Sketching Continued
During the research phase, users highlighted that recipe apps often become difficult to navigate. To address this, several features have been incorporated into the design to enhance the user experience. A step-by-step view presents each cooking stage with large text and accompanying images for clarity. A progress bar allows users to track their position in the recipe. Additionally, a built-in timer ensures users can stay on track without leaving the app, preventing them from forgetting critical steps like removing food from the oven. Another key feature is the "checklist" for ingredients and kitchen tools, where users can mark items they have or lack. If an ingredient is missing, suggested substitutes are provided where available.
Day 4 - Prototype
The prototype focuses on the user journey for cooking a simple recipe at home, featuring the main recipe page, step-by-step cooking experience, and timer. The goal of testing is to ensure the design alleviates user frustrations, identify areas for improvement, and uncover any hidden issues. Additionally, I aim to determine which feature provides the most value to home cooks and refine it further.

Day 5 - Test
Five interviews were conducted to test the new design for the Savr mobile app, with participants all interested in cooking simple meals at home. Users expressed excitement about the app’s ease of use and simple layout. During testing, participants quickly navigated the pre-cooking screens but struggled with how to swipe and move through the ingredient and kitchenware screens. There was also confusion about progressing to the next step in the recipe. The scrolling feature could be improved for smoother navigation. Participants praised the design, noting the progress tracker, built-in timer, and large text with photos were particularly helpful for staying on track.
